Seeking a holistic drug rehab treatment center for a teenager or adolescent? There are so many choices. Choices which are complicated by the special considerations that come in to play when treating teens and young adults.  Many florida drug rehab centers that base their treatment protocol on adult needs. Adult treatment programs generally aren’t effective for teens. They use drugs and alcohol for different reasons, and young people have more trouble seeing the consequences of using.

Since most teens are enrolled in treatment against their will, special thought must be given to long-term treatment plans. Also, as teens and adolescents generally still reside with a larger family unit, family therapy and involvement is a critical consideration. While most treatment centers are not created especially for teens and young adults, many programs can and will accommodate their treatment. Here are some helpful tips on essential questions to ask before placing a young person you care about in  drug and alcohol rehab..

If your child or teen will be attending a long-term inpatient rehab program, find out what (if any) educational support the treatment center will provide. If you can’t find a program that supports your teen’s educational needs, you may want to inquire about tutoring, or place the child during a school break.

Teen behavior is often extreme. Add drug and alcohol withdrawal to the mix and behavior problems can become a real concern. If other teens are enrolled in your holistic florida rehab ask if the staff is trained in managing teen violence, bullying, and anger. Sexual acting-out can also present a problem. Make sure there are procedures in place to keep your teen safe.

Teens and adolescents are still growing and often need large quantities of food, rest and exercise. Does your selected treatment center provide opportunities for large motor activities such as jogging, swimming or lifting weights? Do they provide foods to adequately address the nutritional needs of teens?

Often teens who abuse drugs and alcohol also use tobacco (which is still illegal for use by those under age 18.) Is your florida rehab smoke-free? If not, will they take steps to prevent your child or young teen from obtaining cigarettes?

Drug and alcohol abuse can cause anxiety and depressions in anyone, but teens are often hardest hit by suicidal and hopeless thoughts. Do make sure any rehab center you consider also offers therapeutic care in the form of group or individual counseling.

This is not a complete list, rather a guide to beginning research on finding a drug alcohol rehab that best fits the needs of the young person you love and planting them firmly on the road to a productive, drug-free  life.
